Gubernatorial Debate Recap, College Bound South Florida Seniors & Havana Habibi

Cuban-American belly dancer and filmmaker Tiffany "Hanan" Madera spent 13 years making "Havana Habibi."

On Wednesday, Florida's gubernatorial candidates Andrew Gillum and Ron DeSantis had their last debate before Election Day at Broward College. WLRN Broward County reporter Caitie Switalski was at the debate and joined Sundial to share key takeaways.

For seniors in South Florida and across the country, this time of year can be particularly stressful as they fill out their college applications. Sundial hosted a panel discussion about the college preparation process and were joined by Coral Reef High School “CAP” advisor Louise Gilman; Dr. Octavio Ramos, President of Dr. O. Ramos & Associates Tutoring and College Prep Services; and Dave Marcus, the author of “Acceptance: A Legendary Counselor Helps Seven Kids Find the Right Colleges— and Find Themselves.”

Can belly dancing heal emotional wounds? Miami Native Tiffany "Hanan" Madera is using belly dancing to rethink issues of feminism, sexual violence, and social justice. Madera introduced to Middle Eastern dance to Cuba 15 years ago, which is where Havana Habibi--which in Arabic means "Havana my Sweetheart"--was born. Her experience then became an real-life documentary. A screening of Madera's documentary "Havana Habibi" will play Saturday at O Cinema Wynwood from 11-2 p.m.
