Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, Florida Politics With PBS & The Daily Show In Miami

Alejandra Martinez
Roy Wood Jr. is a correspondent on The Daily Show. He sits on the "golden toilet" while compossing a tweet.

Next week, voters in the City of Miami will choose whether or not Mayor Francis Suarez will become the city’s first "strong mayor." Suarez has campaigned on the idea voters need a mayor that has the power to enact the changes they’d like to see. But critics see it as a power grab. Suarez was also recently named to the Global Summit on Climate Adaptation, which was started by Bill Gates and United Nations General Secretary Ban Ki Moon, to develop policies to make cities more resilient. Mayor Suarez joined Sundial to talk about political divisiveness and the midterm elections.

PBS Newshour has spent the past several days reporting in Florida for a series on battleground states. Yamiche Alcindor, White House Correspondent for PBS NewsHour, was in Miami speaking with voters about critical election issues. Alcindor joined Sundial to talk about how alleged pipe bomber from Aventura is affecting people’s political views and other key concerns this election season. "Battleground Florida" will air on WPBT tonight; you can see the full episode here.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah is broadcasting from Miami Beach this entire week. Last week, Roy Wood Jr., correspondent for The Daily Show, spoke with Luis Hernandez from their roving "Donald J. Trump Twitter Library," a collection of Trump's tweets posted on frames and presented as an art display. They discussed his entry into the world of comedy as well as how the correspondent finds interviewees on the street for feature packages. Those interested in attending a show must make a reservation.

You can see a video of Roy Wood Jr. below.
