Seniors In Palm Beach County Experience A 43 Percent Increase In Homelessness
Palm Beach County's Homeless and Housing Alliance and several non-profit organizations say they counted 1,510 homeless individuals and families during the annual homeless point-in-time count.
Seniors, who make up 12 percent of the total homeless population, are experiencing a 43 percent increase in homelessness — according to a statement following the count.
The homeless situation improved for military veterans and people between the ages of 18-24, who experienced small decreases.
The 2020 count was during a 24-hour period between January 23 and 24. The county has now partnered with several organizations to create prevention and sheltering strategies for the senior homeless population.
