WLRN Public Media to Bring Classical Music Back to South Florida on Aug. 10

WLRN Public Media is pleased to announce that classical music is coming back to South Florida Aug. 10.

WLRN’s HD-2 radio channel will change from “Alternative News and Talk” to “Classical 24.”

South Florida listeners can once again enjoy classical music 24 hours a day through HD-capable radios, live-stream on WLRN.org, as well as, WLRN’s iPhone and Android apps.

The decision to bring back “Classical 24” by the WLRN management team was spurred by American Public Media Group's sale of its Classical South Florida radio network to Christian broadcaster Educational Media Foundation.

“We understand the importance and impact that classical music has in this community,” says John LaBonia, general manger of WLRN. “We provided it before Classical South Florida arrived in 2007 and we are happy to provide the service again.”

Listeners will be able to locate the Classical 24 Playlist at WLRN.org.

Click here to understand and learn more about the benefits of HD radio. Not sure how to get it? Here are some ways:

  • Most recent automobile models have HD-capable radio stations available on their entertainment systems.
  • We live-stream our HD-2 (and HD-1) signal, making it available:
    On a computer
On a smartphone (either via the WLRN app or a streaming app such as TuneIn Radio)
  • On internet radio (see an example by going to amazon.com and searching for “Grace Internet Radio”)
This works with your home wireless internet router. Once set up, it acts like a standard table radio, but receives any and all internet streams, including WLRN’s HD-2.
