A Music Legend Provides Comfort and Hope To The World

Friday 9:30pm ANDREA BOCELLI: MUSIC FOR HOPE: A Great Performances Special

Andrea Bocelli breaks records as his Music For Hope concert becomes the biggest live-streamed classical event of all time with 35 million views.

Relive this historic event from iconic Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli in his Easter Sunday concert from Milan's historic cathedral.  With the city under lockdown due to COVID-19, the singer performed "Ave Maria," "Amazing Grace" and more accompanied only by Duomo di Milano's organist, Emanuele Vianelli.

World-renowned opera singer Andrea Bocelli took the stage in a deserted Duomo di Milano on Easter Sunday to perform a concert dubbed “Music For Hope” — but his moving performance was not left unseen. The concert was live-streamed on YouTube to more than 3.4 million viewers. The historic event reached over 2.8 million peak concurrent viewers, making it one of the biggest musical live stream performances of all-time and the largest simultaneous audience for a classical live stream in YouTube history.

Italy has suffered more than 19,000 deaths as a result of COVID-19 and the U.S. has since surpassed them with over 20,000 deaths. Bocelli’s performance served a moment of comfort and hope.
