Florida Adds More Than 2,800 New Cases, 93 New Resident Deaths

Updated Monday at 4 p.m.

Florida’s Department of Health confirmed an additional 2,826 positive cases of COVID-19 Monday. The state has a total of 1,979,634 confirmed positive cases, according to the state's health department.

Monday's update also included the announcement of 93 new resident deaths, increasing the statewide number of Floridians who died to 32,348. Factoring in non-resident deaths the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 32,959.

Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties make up 10,787 of those reported deaths. Monroe County has reported 47 deaths due to COVID-19.

Now that the latest round of money is on its way, you can check an IRS website to verify the exact date the cash will land in your bank account.

The payments, which could be as much as $1,400 for qualified individuals and $5,600 for qualified families, are part of President Biden’s $1.9 trillion rescue package.

Florida’s COVID Vaccine Rules Change Monday. Here’s What You Need To Know

Updated Monday 7:12 a.m.

Starting Monday, Floridians over age 60 are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

People under 60 with “extreme vulnerability” also will have expanded options. They now will be eligible for vaccines at sites run by the Florida Department of Emergency Management, instead of only at pharmacies or sites supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Mike Jachles, chairman of the Florida Association of Public Information Officers, said at a news conference Sunday.

That means sites such as Hard Rock Stadium and Marlins Park are offering vaccines to anyone who has a state Department of Health form signed by a doctor.

Florida Seniors Who Must Stay Home Can Now Have The Covid Vaccine Delivered. Here’s How

Updated Monday 5:36 a.m.

Florida seniors who cannot leave their homes but in need of a COVID-19 vaccine have a new way to sign up for an appointment.

Email HomeboundVaccine@em.myflorida.com with your name and phone number and someone will get back to you about setting up an appointment, according to the Florida Division of Emergency Management, which is tasked with the state’s vaccine distribution.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the new scheduling system on Twitter late Thursday and said it was a new way for seniors to “have the vaccine come directly to them.” On Monday, the state’s vaccine age requirement of 65 will drop to 60.
