Federal Probe Looks At Miami-Dade Affordable Housing Projects

Miami-Dade County officials are facing a tight deadline. A subpoena obtained by the Miami Heraldshows that federal prosecutors are asking the county for records of all affordable housing projects funded through a $137 million bond program.

Miami-Dade has until June 29 to comply.

  • Some of the most prominent developers in South Florida have been named in the subpoena. They include Carlisle Development Group, Biscayne Housing Group, Pinnacle Housing Group, Related Urban Development Group, the Cornerstone Group and Carrfour Supportive Housing.
  • According to sources familiar with the probe, federal investigators are looking into whether the developers misrepresented construction costs for affordable housing development and kept profits that should have been returned to the county.
  • The attorney for Miami-Dade County has informed the U.S. Attorney's Office that the county might need more time to comply with the records request.
