Thousands of Miami-Dade teachers will cast ballots Oct. 30 in a ratification vote on a tentative contract agreement hashed out this month between district negotiators and the United Teachers of Dade.
The deal, worth $70 million, provides a raise of at least $1,100 to all the district’s 21,000-plus teachers and a pay increase of 2.3 percent plus a $331 stipend to paraprofessionals, security monitors and secretaries. Teachers will have a chance to approach or exceed the $2,500 raise pledged by Gov. Rick Scott this year with a boost from federal performance pay dollars, according to the district and union.
The agreement also includes changes to health insurance and amended contract language to conform to Florida’s Student Success Act, which establishes a merit pay system for new teachers, among other changes.
Should the union ratify the contract, the school board will vote on the deal during a Nov. 6 special meeting.
