On the Overseas Highway in the Keys, there's only one drawbridge left. And its end may be nearing.
Anyone who travels through the Upper Keys knows it can take awhile to get through Islamorada.
That's because the Snake Creek Bridge opens up once an hour during the day, stopping traffic on the Keys' only highway.
The state Department of Transportation is now looking into the feasibility of replacing the span between Windley and Plantation Keys.
The state is looking at the condition of the bridge, as well as future traffic needs and what it would take to build a fixed span.
DOT is holding an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Founders Park community room in Islamorada.
