Mosquito Spraying, Miami Immigration Attorneys Return From Texas & Special Ops Group Saves Corals

Special Operations veterans from around the world repurposed their military skills for the betterment of marine conservation.

new report from Florida International University looks at the effectiveness of mosquito spraying in areas of Miami impacted by the Zika virus. The research found that using larvicide to target mosquitos in early stages of development was much more effective than using adulticide, which kills adult mosquitos. Dr. Phil Stoddard is the author of the study and South Miami Mayor. He says based on his research, bacterial larvicide are the best solution for mosquito control and a safer long-term solution. Dr. Stoddard joined Sundial to talk about the results of the report and some of the major issues facing South Miami.

Five Miami-based attorneys traveled to Karnes, Texas to bring legal aid to undocumented parents and children kept at detention facilities there.  Gina Polo and Christine Alden, from the law firm Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, went to Texas as pro-bono work. They joined Sundial to talk about the legal rights available for detainees, their experiences in Texas and what assistance they provided to the families.

Force Blue” is a special operations group of combat veterans focused on fighting coral reef diseases. The military-trained group uses their diving skills and to fight the dangers of coral bleaching and diseases attacking the coral. The Executive Director and Co-Founder of Force Jim Ritterhoff and team member Roger Sparks joined Sundial to talk about their mission to protect the environment and what they'll be doing in their current stop in Key Largo.
