WLRN Public Television won three Emmy Awards for two documentaries and one promotion video this week.

WLRN was granted these prestigious awards  by The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a nonprofit organization committed to honoring excellence in television.

WLRN‘s documentary Out of Darkness, Into Light received an award in the Societal Concerns category. The award went to producer Mia Laurenzo, director Doug Clark and editor Jamie March.

Out of Darkness, Into Light is a half hour documentary which delves into the lives of three adult survivors of child sexual abuse, who through their own personal experiences, are committed to helping others affected by this unthinkable crime.

Another winner was WLRN’s Ralph Munroe's Barnacle: Centerpiece of a Legacy, which received an Emmy for best documentary under the category of Nostalgia Programs.

Producer Debra Hall-Greene took home the award for this half- hour documentary that takes viewers back to what South Florida looked like when Ralph Munroe arrived in 1877. There were no highways, no streets, and certainly no railroad, yet Ralph Munroe was captivated by the people and the natural world he found. This is the story of Ralph Munroe and the legacy that helped shape South Florida forever.

Producer Andrew Hevia won WLRN’s final Emmy of the evening for the most creative station image spot entitled Funner Projects under the category of Promotion. This one-minute promotional video shows the intricate preparation of a 14 foot mechanized crossbow that launches a 2 x 4 at over 140 miles an hour to hit its mark.

The Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards recognizes excellence in television and the regions' leadership for their artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry from all over the region, which includes Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia and Puerto Rico.
