A crowd of 200 filled Selby Library auditorium in Sarasota Wednesday night for a town hall featuring students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Hundreds more were unable to get a seat after the hall reached capacity.

This summer, students involved in the March For Our Lives movement are traveling across the country to energize young people. Local organizers say they want to educate and encourage them to vote.

The families of all but two of the 17 teens and faculty killed in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland have formed an advocacy organization pushing for school safety, mental health reform and gun control.

Together, the families on Thursday launched Stand With Parkland, described as a nonpartisan national organization. They said the goal is to advocate "for practical public safety reforms focused on the safety of our children and staff at school, improved mental health support, and responsible firearms ownership."

The unarmed security monitor who first spotted the suspect before a shooting that killed 17 at a Florida high school is being dismissed from his job.

The South Florida SunSentinel reports the Broward County school district announced Tuesday that Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School monitor Andrew Medina and another monitor, David Taylor, won't be rehired for the 2018-19 school year.

The Florida Parent Teacher Association (PTA) temporarily suspended the operations of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) on Monday in order to conduct an audit of the association’s finances, according to a news release.

Members of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School's drama team stole the show at the 72nd Annual Tony Awards Sunday night.

The performance brought the crowd— many of whom were wiping tears from their eyes— to its collective feet at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The surprise showing wasn't part of that afternoon's dress rehearsal.

Incident reports filed after the Feb. 14, 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School show that first responders asked several times during the critical first minutes to go into the school buildings to help the victims, but their requests were denied by Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) deputies because the shooter had not been captured or neutralized yet.

During the first five minutes of the state's second Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission meeting, the chair of the group, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri, read a letter from Andrew Pollack, announcing his resignation from the commission.

On Feb. 15 — the day after the school shooting in Parkland — Fred Guttenberg stood on stage at the amphitheater in Pine Trails Park, expressing shock and anguish over the loss of his daughter, Jaime.

“I don’t know what I do next,” he said that night. “My wife is home. We are broken.”

Andrew Pollack is a school safety activist, a founder of Americans for Children’s Lives and School Safety and father of Meadow Pollack, one of the 17 victims from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Dr. Sandra Calvert is the Director of the Children’s Digital Media Center and a child psychologist at Georgetown University. She was part of the American Psychological Association in 2015 where she explored the impact of violent video games on children’s brains.
