A new Human Rights Watch report says drug gangs and rebel groups in Colombia are increasingly recruiting children for dangerous tasks, including piloting drones carrying explosives. The report published Monday also highlights how the groups use social media to recruit children, especially in rural areas.

Recovering from the devastating earthquake that hit Colombia earlier this month will be particularly challenging for Choco, a remote region that has long struggled with high poverty rates, poor infrastructure and underfunded health and education services. According to the U.N. humanitarian agency, 69,000 people in Choco were affected or displaced by the earthquake.

Colombian presidential candidate Abelardo de la Espriella is urging prosecutors to investigate possible voter coercion by rebel groups in favor of governing party candidate Iván Cepeda. De la Espriella made the call for an inquiry on Tuesday. His campaign says Cepeda received more than 70% of votes in areas with active illegal armed groups during the May 31 election.

Former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe has been found guilty of witness tampering and bribery in a historic trial that gripped the South American nation and threatened to tarnish the conservative strongman’s legacy.
