Hundreds of millions of dollars are on the line for Palm Beach County schools.
Earlier this month, the Florida Department of Education told school districts they had until a the April 18 deadline, which has since passed, to comply with the Trump Administration’s mandate to sunset diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
The Palm Beach County school board is expected to take emergency action to cut diversity, equity and inclusion efforts from its policies. The district stands to lose upward of $300 million in federal funding otherwise.
The School Board plans to approve the changes on Wednesday, which includes removing reference to affirmative action in hiring and prioritizing diversity among school committees. According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, Superintendent Michael Burke has signed a form assuring compliance.
