The early morning light hits the U.S. Capitol Building on Oct. 17, 2019.

Early Thursday morning, after Wednesday's insurrection at the U.S. Capitol led by pro-Trump extremists, President-elect Joe Biden's election victory was certified by Congress.

But that decision came after two challenges to the election results from Pennsylvania and Arizona. Congress ultimately voted down efforts to decertify the electoral college results in those two states but a majority of Republican representatives, and some senators, voted in support of decertification — including many Florida lawmakers.

Sen. Marco Rubio voted against decertifying the results in both states while Sen. Rick Scott split his vote — supporting decertifying the results from Pennsylvania but not Arizona.

Meanwhile, Republican representatives from South Florida — including Reps. Carlos Gimenez, Mario Diaz-Balart and Brian Mast — voted in favor of decertifying the results.

Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar — representing Florida's 27th congressional district —has not been sworn in as she recovers from a positive COVID-19 test. She commented on yesterday's siege on Twitter.
