Video Games And School Shootings, Conversations With Tanzina Vega & Lauren Groff

Lauren Groff ecently published a collection of short stories titled “Florida.";

Andrew Pollack is a school safety activist, a founder of Americans for Children’s Lives and School Safety and father of Meadow Pollack, one of the 17 victims from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Dr. Sandra Calvert is the Director of the Children’s Digital Media Center and a child psychologist at Georgetown University. She was part of the American Psychological Association in 2015 where she explored the impact of violent video games on children’s brains. Pollack and Calvert joined Sundial to talk about violent video games.

Tanzina Vega is the new host of “The Takeaway”and one of the very few latina hosts in public media. Her show is broadcasting this week from WLRN studios in Miami, discussing many of the issues key to listeners in South Florida like climate change, gun violence and our region’s rich diversity. Vega was formerly a top journalist at the New York Times and CNN, reporting on race, inequality and class in the United States. Shejoins Sundial to talk about diversity and inclusion in newsrooms, the importance of creating opportunities for people of color and how it feels like to be the host of a national radio show.

Lauren Groff is the author of bestsellers like "Arcadia" and "Fates and Furies" and a National Book Award Finalist. She recently published a collection of short stories titled “Florida.” She joins Sundial to talk about her new book, her love/hate relationship for Florida and her book tour. Groff will be at Books & Books in Coral Gables Wednesday, June 6 at 8 p.m.
