Residents and tree advocates say the city is increasingly invoking traffic-safety rules to scrutinize long-time hedges and mature trees, raising questions about what the enforcement could mean for Coconut Grove’s lush character.

Residents say Miami failed to follow its own zoning rules when commissioners approved the county’s $59 million redevelopment plan for the historic theater.

As redevelopment transforms Coconut Grove, one homeowner is asking the City of Miami to designate her 1925 home as a historic property. “When I’m dead and gone, I just would like it to stay,” says homeowner Barbara Lange.
