University of Central Florida researchers have developed a model that leaders can use to plan for sea level rise in the state’s coastal regions.

UCF Department of Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering’s Thomas Wahl says their model doesn’t predict when or where sea level rise will happen.

King tides are the highest tides of the year, and they're a an annual occurrence in Florida. However with the recent water intake from Hurricane Matthew, this year's are expected to be much higher than usual.

If you live in any of Florida's coastal areas or islands, here are some ways to stay safe and dry during the king tides.
