No More Soggy Fishing Licenses! FWC Launches Permit App

Kenny Malone

Florida’s great outdoors now comes with a paperless option.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has launched a new mobile app that lets hunters and fishermen buy licenses from their smart phones and store those licenses digitally.

“You have people having issues like losing their license or their license getting wet or even they forgot their license at home,” says FWC spokeswoman Amanda Nalley. “Most people have their phone on them regardless of whether they may have left their wallet at home.”

And while the new app can’t guide anglers to the best fishing spots, it can help navigate Florida’s myriad permit exemptions. For example, the app prompts users for their birth date to see if they qualify for an under-16 or over-65 fishing license exemption.

Old-fashioned, fashion-conscious fishermen may find it difficult to pin an iPhone to their antique floppy-hats. Rest assured the FWC will still offer licenses in the traditional paper and plastic varieties.

On average The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission sells 1.6 million licenses for hunting and fishing each year. The new app is available for Android, Apple and Windows smartphones.
