Many of Riviera Beach’s municipal buildings were built in the 1970s. There’s been little improvement since.

The City recently allocatedhundreds of millions of dollars to break down, redevelop or move many of its municipal facilities — including its City Hall. And as the population grows, the city’s “Reimagine Riviera Beach” campaign seeks to redevelop many of its facilities, such as its water treatment plant and police stations.

A new public library and the Urban Farm and Restorative Garden are already completed — the library hosts an incubator program for entrepreneurship and leadership skills, and the city partnered with a nonprofit to produce a food forest that aims to address the city's food desert. And now major construction is underway for another project.

The city is breaking ground on its $17 million Fire Station 88, a two-story, 31,000-square-foot property on 1920 West Blue Heron boulevard.

The virtual groundbreaking ceremony for the fire station will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m.

The fire station could be completed in just over a year. The station includes a temporary space for the Emergency Operations Center.

Officials say the Utility Special District Board voted to invest up to $150 million into its outdated, 63-year-old water plant. The city allocated 1.5 million to move its City Hall to Blue Heron Blvd., breaking ground in late September 2022.
