The coronavirus death toll rose to five in Florida, with the disease killing a 77-year-old man who lived in a Broward County assisted-living facility, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday.
DeSantis also will issue an executive order at 5 p.m. this afternoon closing all bars and nightclubs throughout the state of Florida. The closure of restaurants will be determined by municipalities, but those that remain open must comply with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention limiting gatherings to less than 10 people.
The governor sent a “strike team” to the facility upon learning that the man, who had several underlying health problems, had tested positive for the pathogen.
“All individuals at the facilities are isolated and are being evaluated,” DeSantis said, before announcing that the state’s total number of coronavirus cases had climbed to 192, up from 160 Monday night.
