On this Thursday, Jan. 30, episode of Sundial:

Why are Broward schools losing students?

A number of Broward County Schools are facing a serious drop in student enrollment.Earlier this week at a school board meeting, proposals to consolidate the schools were up for consideration.

"[At the meeting] there wasn't much support from parents for consolidating schools,” says Scott Travis, education reporter for the Sun Sentinel.

Parents are raising questions about why this is happening and school district’s response. Travis joins Sundial to breakdown the story.

Will Miami Gardens benefit from Super Bowl LIV?

Super Bowl LIV will bring tens of thousands of people, all kinds of festivities and economic activity to South Florida. NFL-sanctioned events and parties are being held in the cities of Miami and Miami Beach, but not Miami Gardens, where the big game will take place.

"People are coming to spend money at some of our restaurants, but we don't have [fancy] hotels like that," says Mayor Oliver Gilbert, who joins Sundial to discuss whether his city is losing out on money.

Miami Black Opera

A Black History Month music concert on Saturday, "Art of A Spiritual,” will feature a group of black South Florida singers. The concert will highlight the old “Negro Spiritual,” and the boldness of black ancestors. Kyaunnee Richardson, a South Florida opera singer, joins Sundial to talk about the local opera scene and sing on the show. The concert will be at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, 6161 NW 22nd Ave., Miami, at 7 p.m. Saturday.
