National Transportation Safety Board

The NTSB is already investigating two crashes involving Brightline’s high-speed trains that killed three people early this year at the same crossing in Melbourne along the railroad’s route between Miami and Orlando.

The safety board recommends all new vehicles be required to have systems that can stop an intoxicated person from driving. A final decision is up to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The westbound train, Empire Builder, was on its way from Chicago to Seattle when it left the tracks Saturday after near Joplin, Mont., killing three people.
