Governor Rick Scott Visits Miami-Dade County As Zika Spreads To Miami Beach

Florida Governor Rick Scott is visiting Miami today to offer support to the local tourism industry, as the number of locally-acquired Zika cases keeps rising and Miami Beach joins Wynwood as zone of active transmission.

Two new cases of locally acquired Zika were reported in Miami Beach, increasing the total of patients that have acquired the virus by mosquito bites in Miami-Dade County to 35.

Scott will be holding a Zika preparedness conference in Northwest Miami at noon.

Later, Scott will tour the Wynwood community that has been deemed an impacted Zika zone or "hot spot" since late July.

The governor has reached out to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, as well as the Department of Health to work with hotels and restaurants on Zika education.

In part of the effort, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity released a survey for businesses in Miami-Dade County that may be impacted by the Zika virus, as a relief program for businesses.
