Judges of the Radio Television Digital News Association awarded WLRN News with six regional awards in the 2016 Edward R. Murrow Awards competition. WLRN competes in RTDNA Region 13, which is comprised of Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and the U.S.Virgin Islands. The station won four regional Murrow awards last year.
WLRN's wins were for continuing coverage of normalized relations between the United States and Cuba; a look at the South Florida graffiti scene in the '90s; an investigation into the lives of those who fall into the health care coverage gap; an exploration of the migration crisis in Central America; how a popular Brazilian sport is taking over South Florida beaches; and overall excellence for the WLRN news team.
