State-funded programs to clean up gas spills exist, but, in the case of this property, have proven to be ineffective and slow.

Historic flooding a week ago in South Florida has led to long lines at the region’s gas stations, as drivers fearful of a fuel shortage have been unnecessarily topping off their tanks.

According to AAA, prices dropped an average of 17 cents last week and are down 96 cents since mid-June.

The fuel is normally banned from sale in the summer to combat smog. Trump also allowed summer sales of the 15-percent ethanol blend in 2019 after U.S. farmers were hurt by his trade war with China.

Soaring gasoline prices have fueled increased demand for electric cars, hybrids and smaller gasoline-powered vehicles. But shoppers may not find much to choose from.

There's no shortage of gasoline, but a few stations have still run dry because it's hard to find qualified truck drivers who can move the fuel around. The high demand is pushing driver pay up.
