Hurricane Beryl

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava is joining with local storm relief organizations to coordinate assistance to hundreds of thousands of people impacted by Hurricane Beryl’s destructive path across a long swath of the southeastern Caribbean.

Hurricane Beryl ripped off roofs in Jamaica, jumbled fishing boats in Barbados and damaged or destroyed 95% of homes on a pair of islands in St. Vincent and the Grenadines before rumbling toward the Cayman Islands and taking aim at Mexico’s Caribbean coast with at least seven dead in its wake.

Beryl hit Jamaica as a Category 4 storm and by Thursday afternoon had weakened some but still forged on as a still-powerful Category 2, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

Hurricane Beryl is roaring across the Caribbean Sea as a monstrous Category 5 storm on a path toward Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. At least four people have died after Beryl slammed ashore in the southeast Caribbean.

Hurricane Beryl rapidly intensified to become the earliest Category 4 storm in recorded history. As it struck Carriacou island with 150mph winds, Grenadian community leaders in Miami say they expect the worst. It does not bode well for a season already forecast to be above average.

Hurricane Beryl upgraded to a "potentially catastrophic" Category 5 storm late Monday night, the National Hurricane Center said, as it crossed islands in the southeastern Caribbean.
