Students Are Honored At The 2014 Silver Knight Awards. Only On WLRN-TV!

Tune in on Monday, June 9 at 7 p.m. and meet the 2014 winners of the Silver Knight Awards taped at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

The Herald/El Nuevo Herald presents the 2014 Silver Knight Awards, the nation’s most highly regarded student awards program.  This program recognizes outstanding students who maintain good grades and contribute significant service to their school and community.  Miami-Dade and Broward County Public School students were recognized.

This is the story of the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s 501st attempt to save an orphan otter. From her discovery as a stranded newborn pup crying on the beach through her rehabilitation in secret roof tanks atop the Aquarium, NATURE follows as Otter 501 learns how to dive, hunt, eat, and fend for herself in the wild, where survival is a long shot at best.

Marvel at this epic story, seen through the eyes of the king of the resident golden baboons in the Luangwa Valley, one of the last true wildernesses in Africa. It appears to be an idyllic setting, but below this tranquil scene, is a concentration of animal drama found nowhere else in Africa.

Deep in the Borneo rainforest, a dedicated team of vets and care-givers have a massive and emotional task ahead of them: to rescue and nurse back to health the jungle's most appealing - and most vulnerable - animals. There are currently 600 (approx.) vulnerable orangutans being cared for, day and night, at the Borneo Orangutan Foundation.
