Management from The Heat are set to meet with player Kevin Durant on Sunday afternoon.

The NBA’s free agency period starts Friday and the fate of the face of The Miami Heat, star player Dwyane Wade, hangs in the balance.

The Miami Heat’s President Pat Riley has his eyes on one player in particular during this year’s free agency period, that’s what Miami Herald sports columnist Greg Cote believes.

“The elite player that Pat Riley refers to as a whale. They’re whale hunting, The Heat. So, if they can get Kevin Durant, that takes priority over everything,” Cote said.

While the Heat is one of six teams courting Durant, they will meet with him on Sunday and hope they don’t lose center Hassan Whiteside, or the heart of the team Dwyane Wade, in the process.

The Herald’s Miami Heat Beat writer Manny Navarro said Wade doesn’t want to leave, but also doesn’t want to be underpaid.

“I think what he’s hoping for is a piece of the pie and he’s hoping the heat don’t, sort of, take him for granted,” Navarro said.

The Heat has around 40 million dollars in cap money to spend and three main players to woo.
