South Florida elections, Gov. DeSantis’ political future, Miami Dolphins, Haunted Spaces
We’re coming up on some very important elections next week. Why are there so few showing up to vote early? Some believe Governor DeSantis needs to win Florida in 2022 if he stands a chance to run for the White House in 2024. Plus, are the Miami Dolphins about to make a controversial move to try to start winning? And South Florida’s famously haunted places.
On this, Thursday, October 29 episode of Sundial.
South Florida elections
Some voters in South Florida might be left without full representation in state government during the next legislative session.

There are three state legislative seats that are soon-to-be-vacant. They’re all held by Black Democrats from Broward and Palm Beach counties — who resigned to run for Congress.
After months of delays, on Wednesday Governor Ron Desantis set special election dates to fill these seats. But it might be a little late, leaving South Florida not completely represented when lawmakers vote on laws in early 2022.
The Sun Sentinel's political writer Anthony Man joined Sundial to talk about his reporting on this story. Find more of that reporting here.
Sundial was also joined by WLRN’s digital editor, Lance Dixon and the Miami Herald’s local government reporter, Samantha Gross to talk about the Nov. 2 local elections.

Gov. DeSantis’ political future
“Ron DeSantis Was A Slam Dunk. Until He Wasn’t” that’s the title of a recent New York Times op-ed, written by Republican strategist Liz Mair.
Gov. DeSantis has been a controversial figure since he took office in 2019.
Some Floridians and Democratic leaders remain upset with how he has handled the pandemic. From going against mandatory masks in schools to battling cruise lines, DeSantis has become a controversial leader.
He’s running for re-election to the Governor's mansion in 2022. But there have been, for some time, rumblings that he could be running for the White House in 2024.
Mair joined Sundial to talk about his political future.
The Miami Dolphins came into this season with a lot of hope for success. Instead, they’re one of the worst teams in the league with only one victory.
For the last few weeks, there have been rumors that they may try and make a trade with the Houston Texans for quarterback DeShaun Watson.
Except, Watson is facing 20 civil lawsuits of sexual harassment and misconduct.
Some people believe he could help Miami turn things around. But how do the players and coaches feel about all of the allegations Watson is facing? What are the ethics around professional players with controversial legal baggage?
Daniel Oyefusi is the Dolphin’s beat reporter for the Miami Herald. He joined Sundial to discuss the team.
It’s Halloween season, and that means it’s that time to think about ghosts, ghouls, and frightening stories.
South Florida has a lot of great places that have haunted histories. One of them is in Coral Gables, the Biltmore Hotel.
