Beaches, Gyms And Hotels Reopen In Broward

Updated Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.

Broward County's public beaches, gyms and hotels reopen Tuesday, two months after their closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The county released an emergency order detailing the reopening and safety guidelines to be followed.

Beaches will be open, with restrictions, from sunrise to sunset. Beachgoers must maintain a six-feet distance and are not allowed to picnic, sunbathe or play organized sports. Groups of ten or more individuals are also not allowed.

Cities or towns within the county are allowed to enact stricter measures.

Palm Beach County reopened its public beaches on May 18. Miami-Dade County is expected to reopen beaches on June 1, the same day that Monroe County plans to open for visitors.

Commercial gyms and fitness centers in Broward County are allowed to open at 50% capacity starting Tuesday.

The county's safety guidelines require that patrons wear face coverings at all times, except when working out and cooling down. Anyone entering the gym, including employees, will have their temperature taken and will be denied entry if their temperature is above 100.1 degrees Fahrenheit or if they are showing any symptoms related to COVID-19.

Equipment placement and fitness class attendance must allow for at least 10 feet of social distancing, including aquatic programs.

Gyms and fitness centers must also provide sufficient cleaning materials and sanitizers included on the Environmental Protection Agency's list of disinfectants to use against COVID-19.

For more details check the county's sanitation and safety requirements guide for gyms.

Hotels and commercial lodging are also reopening on Tuesday. Facial coverings will be required for all common areas, except in the rented rooms. Social distancing measures will also be enforced.
