After taking a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers of the look-alike contest announced Friday, May 7, 2021, that the 2021 contest, the 40th edition, is planned for July 22-24.

After taking a year off because of the pandemic, the annual crowd-pleasing Hemingway Look-Alike contest will be back at Sloppy Joe's Bar in Key West, organizers have announced.

The contest typically draws 85 contestants or more for each of its two early rounds, but this year the preliminary rounds will be limited to 35 entrants each.

Contestants compete to see who looks the most like the iconic white-bearded writer — despite Hemingway having dark hair and a mustache when he lived in Key West.

The contest is scheduled for July 22 and 23, with the winner to be named July 24.
